Where Does the Humble Peanut Come From?

Traced back as far as between seven to eight thousand years ago, peanuts are thought to have originally grown in Peru or Brazil, however, this has not been able to be entirely confirmed (and we’re not about to try either!). What is known for sure though, is that when the Spaniard explorers started spreading across the world, they took with them peanuts from South America, turning them into a popular legume in many cultures. Peanuts in ancient Peru were once revered as a spiritual offering, and in Brazil, peanuts were identified early on, and still are today, as a great source of energy. They were ground to release their oils to make a unique drink with maize, but we might stick with a smoothie instead!

What Are the Nutritional Benefits Of Consuming Peanuts?

It is well known that peanuts are a fantastic source of healthful fats and protein, but they are also rich in potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and B vitamins. But what do all these nutrients do for your body? Potassium is responsible for regulating fluid levels inside cells, phosphorus helps repair cells and tissue, magnesium is important for supporting muscle and nerve function, and B vitamins cover such a large role of function. And that isn’t even all the benefits! Essentially, peanuts are such a fantastic source of so many great vitamins and minerals all working together to keep you functioning at optimal levels – this small legume packs a powerful punch!
